Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort is located near the sea and diagonally opposite of the new hospital. This 5 star all-inclusive complex will have the following facilities: an all-inclusive buffet restaurant and terrace, a food street, a swim up pool bar, a beach bar, a patisserie, a mobile ice cream truck, a lobby bar. At an additional costs guests can also enjoy a sushi restaurant, a cigar, rum & whiskey bar, a VIP beach outlet and a microbrewery. In addition, there will be 24-hour front office service, guest relations, car rental, tours & ticket office, meeting rooms, laundry service, free WIFI and 6 stores available.
Furthermore, the resort will provide its guests with an aqua park, a game & movie room, a kids club, daycare, an amphitheater, a tropical wellness garden, fitness, spa facilities, a dive shop and water sports. Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort will also consist of 275 parking spaces.This resort is realized by the local company Corendon Curacao Holding B.V., which is part of Corendon Hotels & Resorts, belonging to the Corendon Group with headquarters in the Netherlands.
This project will be realized in two phases. Phase one is currently being built on the site where Veneto Holiday Beach used to be located, and on the neighboring site. Phase two will be realized in 2021. Phase one entails a hotel complex with 399 rooms, which will be divided in 3 hotel buildings (one new building of seven floors where Denny’s and the casino were once located, and the two existing but fully renovated and extensive hotel buildings). The construction of the complex is expected to finalize by BMW Curacao B.V. in December 2019 and the resort will open its doors to guests in April 2020.
For the realization of Phase one, approximately 250 local employees are involved in all facets of the realization, as well as almost exclusively local supply companies. After the completion of Phase one, a part of this group will start with the renovation of Livingstone Jan Thiel Resort, where 114 new hotel rooms will be constructed, and the general facilities will be modernized and expanded.
Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort has calculated a period of six months to finalize this construction and afterwards they will start immediately with phase two of Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort. In phase two 450 extra rooms, additional swimming pools, additional catering facilities including a beach club, and a new beach will be built. The entire all-inclusive resort with 800+ rooms requires an investment of approximately $100 million. As estimated, the entire team will work for three and three and a half years on the creation of a quarter of the hotel rooms in Curaçao.
With regards to employment during Phase one, Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort has calculated 400 new colleagues who will be recruited for all facets of the hotel business, including Management, Operations, F&B, Sales and Maintenance, at all levels of employees. This large complex equipped with all modern facilities, requires the deployment of many different professionals, both in the provision of services to the guests and behind the scenes in IT systems, training and general support.
Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort also wants to contribute to the professionalization and career opportunities of young local people. The aim is to allow young professionals to gain international work experience in order to boost the tourism sector in Curaçao. Therefore, Corendon Academy will start at the end of 2019. This trainee program will be available for hospitality and tourism students but also ambitious future employees. Over a period of circa five months, participants are prepared for a career at Corendon Hotels & Resorts through workshops, training and work placements at Corendon’s foreign locations.
